House Shoppin'

A big Ellensburg thing to do in the spring & summer is Yard Sales-which EmmaLee excitedly calls "House Shopping" or "the store at the houses". Never thought it would be my cup of tea, but being a teacher-it is a GREAT way to build up classroom stuff that would otherwise cost a fortune-things you don't think of like: legos, dress up, etc.
(yes she is doing the potty dance here-AND she dressed herself for the occasion today!)
Well-the yard sale season began about a week ago so, bright and early this morning, Em & I headed out together to look for some "new" school treasures. A big majority of the people at these sales are teachers-seems we are all looking for toys & dress up, etc to add to our collections :) It's fun to see other colleagues out and about with coffee in hand-looking "awake" as ever at these things! Ha ha ha. Our first stop was to D&M for some Hot Chocky & a newspaper. Em thought she was such a big girl getting her own drink, though her main focus seemed to be her birthday dollars from Nana that were obviously burning a hole in her pocket! Though I didn't find anything today-Emma was thrilled to find a couple toys at a yard sale that a fellow teacher was having. I knew the lady so I let her buy a couple things there. She held my hand the whole time until she spotted what she wanted-then she froze & I knew she'd fallen in love with something. :) Oh the simple joys of childhood. She picked out a V-Smile with an Ariel game and a Disney Sing Along video for her room. All for $3~what a little bargain shopper! After some serious Lysol spray & wipes (I have a weird phobia about other kids toys & the germies.....YUCK), and some new batteries-she is happy as a lark and we are ready for next Saturday.
