So the kids cousin Douglas is in 2nd grade-he recently had a school project with the book Flat Stanley. Flat Stanley is a book about a boy who has a bulletin board fall on him and flatten him like a pancake. The boys family decide to send him on vacation to California and have him travel in an envelope because it us cheaper than airfare.
Kids across the nation do this project and it is pretty neat to see all the places Flat "Stanley" travels to. Needless to say, this year Doug had an assignment where they were to make their own flat person and help him "travel" somewhere in the world so Marcy wrote to us and asked if we'd take Flat Doug with us to Disneyland! She enclosed a check and had us pick up a little something to mail back to all the students in Doug's class as a surprise too!
It is amazing what a nervous wreck I was over a silly piece of paper-but we really didn't want to let Doug down by losing his fragile piece of artwork (which had to get "his" picture taken & be sent back to the school in the mail!)....so all over Disneyland I kept careful eye on where this little paper doll was! I'm pretty rediculous-I know but.....
So here is Flat Doug ready to be popped in the mail today with all the goodies from Disneyland. I picked out a tub of 25 Toy Story Aliens, so each kid could have a toy, and some Mickey Mouse shaped pretzels (which I hoped was a "neutral" snack to share).
Jazzed up the outside of the box.....
The letter of directions said I needed to write a letter about Flat Doug's adventures...so I did....the funniest part about the whole thing was, when Em went to have her picture taken with Mickey & Minnie on Halloween night, she walked up with Flat Doug and one of the Disney cast members knew EXACTLY what it was! ha ha ha. She said to Mike, "Oh she must be doing Flat Stanley at school????" We explained it was for her cousin and everyone got a kick out of it.
Em took it right in to the post office and handed it to our trusty postman Sean-now Flat Doug is on his way to Quatama Elementary! Hopefully Doug enjoys all this as much as we did! Thanks for thinking of us for such a fun project Doug :)
