Today was my May preschool field trip to....the WILD WILD WEST! (or our fairgrounds across the street! lol) We called someone from the city & had them unlock the gates to the Frontier Village inside our fairgrounds.
I set it up ahead of time with different station rotations.
Station 1: The Frontier bank/Trading Post
Station 2: There's a SNAKE in my BOOT game!
Station 3: Panning for Gold
Station 4: Wash yer Britches relay race
Station 5: Pony Rides
Packets of paper cowboy hats were on clearance at the party store last year for $.99! They were awesome additions to this field trip!
The village.....
All the students were placed into groups and rotated around to each station. It was a lot of fun! Bryce said his favorite part was the pony/miniature horse. Gesh-I couldn't tell Bryce! :)
Emma wore her chaps that Grammie & Grandpa gave her last week. I think she put them on backwards-again! lol
Got a few pie pans from the dollar store & covered some gravel with Gold spray paint. Threw them into some sand from our sandbox, which had been transplanted into the metal troughs at the village-covered it all in water & VIOLA! Panning for gold acitivty-huge hit!
The wash relay race was hilarious. They had 2 teams of "washcloth colors". Each team had to dunk it 3 times in the wash bucket, wring it out and run to clip it to the clothesline. Alligator clips were a new novelty to most of the students-making it all the more fun.
The Snake in my boot game: the kids had to stand up tall on a bench and attempt to drop a rubber snake into the boot below....as you can see-Bryce was a cheater pants! :)
They all earned money at the trading post! Time to go buy some snack!!!!!
Of they head to the General Store where the yummies await them!
Another mom was in charge of the General Store & she helped them "buy" their goods :)
Once all food had been purchased, the kids headed to the blankets and enjoyed some tunes from Dr. Lundy (a local retired Family Practice doctor in town-who GLADLY comes and sings to the kids with puppets, etc.) Just another perk of living in a small town :)
The miniature horse "Blue" was a sweet little guy. So gentle with the kids. A HUGE hit with all of them. No tears over monster sized horses this year!
Singing 5 little monkeys with Dr. Lundy....
Even the moms had to get up and sing "Skinamarinky Dink" to the kids :) I have some good sports that play along with me.
It was a BLAST this morning! Now we are off to camp in the Teanaway in the next couple hours! Crazy busy day!!!
