Due to our communities lack of support for education, and ignorant people who "think" they have good reasons for voting AGAINST a levy.....(grrrr. so stupid-but anywhoooo)-this was the last year of 8th grade Honors Camp. Mike has been 1 of 2 teachers in charge of the function since he started working at Morgan Middle School. Now that is all going away-and to top it all off, we won't even HAVE a middle school next year. So sad. My kids have LOVED going to Honors Camp each year. It is always held on Mothers Day weekend-so Mike invites the kids & I up to spend Saturday night up at camp.
It was BEA-U-TIFUL this year. Bright blue skies, not a trace of clouds and 80 degrees!!!! Just the way I like it. Bryce was dying to play baseball on one of the huge fields-so he packed all his gear.
Then he decided that he would rather be with Dadda-his ALL TIME favorite person. Dad happened to be running a game in the "Minute to win-it" event so Bryce decided he'd go join in.
Emma DESPERATELY wanted to play this game: Catch the Ball with your head! :)
These kids were racing against a clock to sort colored Mike & Ike candies....Bryce thought it was great fun to watch.
The annual trip to the playground-they are the ONLY kids that are ever at camp so they never have to share the beloved swings :)
I know-NOT camping attire, but my brain is FRIED from the kitchen remodel....flip flops and a pillowcase dress....that's pure mom points right there! :)
They still have their face paint on from the Farmers Market earlier that morning-they were trying SOOOOO hard to not get their faces wet so they could show everyone at camp.
Mission accomplished!
Fearless B taught Em how to go down the Firepole.
Weirdos...
SCARY?????
Bryce-such a daredevil. Climbs to the tippy top & then precedes to swing his legs back & forth, and side to side as fast as he can! Good grief.
Then he works on perfecting this little number:
Step 1: Lean ALL THE WAY back
Step 2: Fall off the swing-but maintain your balance
Step 3: YEEEEAAAAHH!
The camp owners always have a secret stash of S'mores stuff for Em & B :)
(Oh and YES I let them bring dress up to camp-that's how we roll)
This seems kinda sacrilegious doesn't it? What you missed in this picture was him rockin' out complete with the "rock on" sign with his fingers waving in the air!!!! Oh my word....needless to say-it was time to call it a night! :)
This Friday at school we honored our moms :) The kids made cute tin can gifts filled with snack sized candy bars, and paper purses filled with drawings etc. I interviewed all my students about their mothers in preparation to read their answers outloud at our Mothers Day celebration. When the mom's arrived I warned them that though this was meant to be a token of affection-it might be more like a roast! What can I say-out of the mouths of babes :) It was pretty hilarious and all the moms took it in good spirits.
These are EmmaLee's gifts.
Trey said his mom looked the prettiest when she wears her shiny pink dress (she informed us she DOES NOT own one!????) lol
Ellie said her favorite thing about her mom is "she really loves me-and gives me the best hugs & kisses" (so sweet-expecially since she is adopted)
Brynlee said her mom pretty much forgets everything so she has a purse filled with "to-do" lists :) (Don't we all?)
Ayden said his mom was as tall as a horse & her favorite thing to do was the Wii fit-to get her tummy more bigger! ha ha ha
Blake said his mom often forgets how to cook & that her favorite thing to do was the DISHES!
Jaclyn said her favorite thing about her mom was that she "grows babies & is getting her a new sister!"
Gwen said her mom always forgets to brush her teeth, she looks the most beautiful when she wears her wedding dress, and that it makes her mom happy when Gwen cleans her room for $5!
Huxley (who's mom is in the fedora and red shirt) said his mom's favorite thing to do is "the thing only grown ups can do"!!!! We all got a good chuckle from that one :)
Bryce made me this wall hanging at his school. He was SO proud to give it to me :)
However-today was the ACTUAL Mother's Day. Mike was still gone, so the kids and I grabbed some Starbucks & went antiquing in Thorp this morning. It was so lovely outside we decided to grab the doggies and go to the lake...seemed many people had that thought-the dogs had about 8 puppy friends to play with there & they LOVED it! They swam and played for over 2 hours. It was sooooo nice to enjoy being outside after such a long winter. We even watched an Eagle soar across the lake while we were there. It is AWESOME!
Needless to say-the pooches were POOPED when we got home. They didn't even stand in the truck on the way back! ha ha ha
Pey Pey drying off in the sunshine while the kids "surf" in the kiddie pool on the patio.
It was a great Mothers day.
