Apples! Apples! Everywhere....

It was a stunningly beautiful fall day yesterday. The PERFECT day for picking apples! So after the kids' soccer games in the morning, we headed down to the U-Pick orchard. The owner, Jim, is always so welcoming. I love going there. It's the same place we've been going to for years-raspberries, apples, pears, peaches or pumpkins... We are year round returning clients! :) The kids LOOOOVE to harvest food-doesn't matter what it is. They find so much joy in doing it themselves instead of going to the grocery store. Heck-Emma was here picking raspberries for 2 hours in 101 degree heat this summer!
and wouldn't you know it-when we pulled up, there were still berries to be picked! The kids were given containers & they were gone!

Dad was eager to start the apple pickin' so the kids followed behind. Wagon in tow.

2 happy faces if ever I've seen them!

Harvesting complete! Time to drag the load back to the car....

When we were weighing the apples, the kids waited patiently for Jim to determine the price of their 2 pints of berries (they were itching to devour them right on the spot!). He leaned over and told them they could have them for free & that he was happy they came out to the farm today. Such a nice guy. Berries this time of year are PRICEY! We got 2 overflowing bucketloads of these red beauties for only $20!

No sooner than we had walked thru the door, Emma was washing the fruit, climbing up in the cupboards & grabbing the applesauce sieve. Apparently applesauce was on her bucket list for the day!

She's a great little cook/baker girl.
My favorite thing is these mini apples that we picked. They look regular size in this picture but....
when they are placed next to an actual regular size apple, you can see how small they really are! They will make the PERFECT mini caramel apples for our family halloween party on Friday! Super cute.

Our house smells absolutely DIVINE and the kids' faces are covered in yummy homemade fruit puree! Life is good.
